CBA - www.caryhoops.com

Registration begins August 1, 2012

Cary Basketball Association (CBA) was founded in 1993 by a group of parents who saw a growing need for an organized recreational basketball league in Cary. They met that need for 700 children in the first year alone. Since then, the league has grown to over 1,500 children making it the largest youth sports organization in Cary and the largest basketball association in Northern Illinois.

The CBA is run by a volunteer Board of Directors that meet at Wool Street once per month. See the home page memo field for the next meeting time, date, and location. All people are welcome and invited to attend our meetings.

CBA has year round activities for children in grades K-12. If a child loves to play basketball...CBA has ample opportunities for them to participate all year round!

The regular CBA season begins with four practices in December and games running from late December through late February. Standings are not kept at any grade level. The purpose of the program is for all kids to have fun, learn skills, fundamentals, and the rules of basketball. No matter what the child's ability, the goal is to have fun.

The culmination of the season is All Star Weekend held typically the first weekend in March. At All Star Weekend, every player is an All Star and each player receives a CBA participation trophy. Players play within their division with players of like ability and are announced onto the court over the public address system. Half time fun includes the popular ''Half Court Shoot Out''.

The CBA Girls Travel Basketball leagues are for girls in grades 5-8. Tryouts are in February. Travel practices begin in March with games running through May. These teams also participate in tournaments.

The CBA sponsors Boys Tournament Teams as well as a single elimination Tournament held at Cary Grove High School in late February to complete the Boys High School season.

The CBA offers a variety of different basketball camps throughout the year: fall clinics on specific skills, winter break camps, summer camps, and shooting skills camps.

As the goal of CBA is to have fun and play basketball, Open Gyms are offered weekly in the fall prior to the season, as well as weekly during the season. Admission is only $3.00 for two hours of fun.

CBA gives back to the community by annually donating basketball equipment to Cary area schools to help improve the quality of the athletic programs for all students. In 2002, the CBA Scholarship was established. Cary Grove High Schools seniors are eligible to apply for these awards. To date we have provided more than 14 students with scholarships totaling $14,000.

In addition to providing the youth of Cary with opportunities to learn the skills of basketball, CBA also provides opportunities for those over 14 years of age to earn money as referees or scorekeepers. There are clinics for both referees and scorekeepers prior to the start of each season.

CBA was the first youth sports program in Cary to require all coaches to be certified. Our yearly certification is in accordance with procedures outlined by the National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA). First year coaches are required to attend clinics that cover maximizing athletic performance, first aid, safety, how to organize a fun and interesting practice, and tips on teaching sports techniques.

CBA could not offer all that it does without the help of its many volunteers, coaches, referees, scorekeepers, players, and Sponsors!
